Parenting Adolescents
For those who are wondering
“What alien force has
overcome my child”?, there is a way for you to still be the leader!
This workshop addresses the two predominant issues in
parenting teens:
 |
The psychological changes that occur in the adolescent and
|
 |
The relational changes that consequently must occur in the
parenting relationship. |
There is nothing that can be done to stop the teen’s “hormonal
rage” from marching on, but there is hope and there are skills for those parents
who want to stay at the front of that parade and actually give leadership to it.
The various skills taught in this workshop can be summed up in the word,
‘consequences’. They are all based upon the biblical principle that, “The
wages of sin are death.”
Training by consequences accomplishes several things:
 |
It enables parents
to actually control and train their adolescents. |
 |
It enables the
parents to do so without the adolescents seeing them as the ‘problem’.
|
 |
It biblically
prepares adolescents for success in the adult world. |
Along with the training, there is an emphasis on the sharing
of ideas and support among the parents that attend. This is one of the most
widely acclaimed workshops that Dr. Focks leads. |

I wanted to let you know how enriching your
class was this Fall at North Metro. Being the father
of three teenage boys, I felt oftentimes out of control in
the relationship building process with them, as well as
inadequate in the "life preparation" area.
Your class gave me some invaluable direction in
consequences-based behavior discussions with my boys. Along with the
exchanges with other class members about their struggles (and triumphs) I now
feel much better equipped to handle this phase of child rearing. It
has opened up additional parenting communication with my wife, too. Thanks
for a great forum and a great class.
